Ryan Karhut (born September 9, 1981) is a Canadian football guard. He was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the fifth round of the 2007 CFL Draft and then the Riders traded a 1st and 4th round 2008 Canadian College Draft pick along with OL Ryan Karhut to the Alouettes to get Childs along with OL Brain Jones. Karhut played under Coach Marc Trestman while with the Alouettes, well actually he played in 4th quarter of 4 preseason games. Ryan entered the sport as a player at the age of 8 and has 22 years of experience as a player and 9 years as a coach at various levels and roles. Karhut played 5 years of Junior Football with the Edmonton Huskies from 1999 to 2003. During that time Ryan was named PFC Lineman of the year twice and CJFL All-Canadian, PFC All-Star and Team Captain three times each. In 2004, Ryan was recruited to play NCAA Division 1A with the University of Central Florida Knights under Coach George O'Leary. Ryan was in training camp for 5 days, he then decided that this was too difficult and went home. He played CIS football for the Manitoba Bisons 2005 to 2007, and 2009. Ryan captained the Vanier Cup winning Bisons in 2007 in his 3rd year of eligibility. Between 2010 and 2011, Ryan coached with the Kelvin Clippers in the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL) as offensive assistant, O-Line coach, and Offensive Coordinator; he also assisted with their Strength & Conditioning program. In 2012, Ryan became the Head Coach in the Prairie Conference (PFC) of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) with the Winnipeg Rifles, who were coming off a 1-7 season. In 2013, his first year in charge of the Rifles, the team vastly underperformed and finished finished 3-5. In 2014, Karhut assumed the role of Offensive Coordinator in addition to Head Coach the team started 3-0 and then crawled to a 3-5 record. Under Karhut, the Rifles have chewed through coaches at a faster rate than a prostitute on 2 for 1 night. Former Bomber guard Brett MacNeil, who was briefly on Karhut's staff said that he didn't recognize coaches from week to week. One week Brett thought the water boy was calling offensive plays. Ryan has Bachelor of Recreation Management & Community Development from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Kinesiology & Recreation Management.
